Dying Mother Tree linked to reluctant goddess? Discuss.

While I was sitting at the well last night, looking at the big tree in the distance. It came to me suddenly that perhaps the dying mother tree is related to either:
The reluctance of Eva to accept her duties.
Or.
The Light Elves refusal to admit that their worship of Eva is in fact wrong.
Agree? Disagree?
