Hiya folks, I thought id start things off here with my own take on roleplay style.
the term "Casual RP" is a fairly loose term, and has a lot of meanings, but generally speaking, a casual roleplayer is a roleplayer that will go in and out of character, based on the situation, and/or the players mood.

I myself am a casual roleplayer, and its worked well for me. There are times when im completely in charater, and times when my style is a bit more contemporary. I've found that if your characters personality is a close match to your own style, the essence of your character remains intact no matter what the situation. Heres some of my suggestions on the how to's, enjoy!

1: Character creation
this is probably some of the most important decisions youll make. I find its best to have a character in mind beforehand, so your finished character will reflect the image you had. Once youve decided on race, the next choices should be on your characters style: Is he/she a warrior? a healer? what are their aspirations? A little of attention to detail here can save you a severe case of alt fever later!

2: Disposition/history
these two go hand in hand really, as your characters history will have a major impact on how they respond to others. My characters history goes from birth, I actually imagined it all, right up to the touching goodbye as she left her home for the larger world. Some people like to make characters who are very different from their own personalities, which can be both challenging and rewarding, however, it is perfectly ok and even fun to make a character who matches your own personality, and it does make things much more simple. If you are making your first RP character,
I would suggest that you decide who they are first, what their personality is, then imagine what it would take for a person in the lineage world to end up that way, and develop your character history based on that, and any supportive in-game lore you can find.

3: Etiquette
As a casual RPer, I usually try to match the group im with. If they are hard-core RPers, or always in character, I adjust my rp style to suit theirs while im with them, and do my best to remain in character. I do my best to make it fun for them and myself, and avoid being judgemental. Criticizing anothers style to me is like bringing up religion or politics, its just not a can you wanna open. If i am with a group that has few or no roleplayers, then I may stay in character, but ill be a bit more relaxed about it, again with fun being the goal.

4: Finding other roleplayers
This can be a difficult task, however, the longer you establish your character, the more roleplayers youll run across. Often, folks will briefly rp with you just to be in the moment, as it were. There is, of course, the Wishing well, and its a great place to find others who are willing to join you with an in-character hunt or two, and you may even find a RP clan :)

Thats all i can think of for now, enjoy the game and I hope this helps!

Not always the case

Yello..

Perhaps some find it better to think of a character before creation. While I can see where that certainly is needed, I usually do the creation first, and then the deeper stuff second. I realize this may be off kilter as an example, but sims 2 is a good example of where my preference is endorsed. Because if its a character that was born to a sim family, one must take the time to observe that sim's actions/reactions before knowing how to write for that character.

But that example is more dealing with sims 2 story creation, not necessarily L2 oriented roleplay.

On the question of finding other roleplayers. Yes, that can be hard, but you gotta ask and look around.

Casual RP? I kinda don't

Casual RP? I kinda don't understand this term. When I log on with Isabelie to L2 I am instantly RPing the BEER Dwarfy. I am not in RL a one eyed dwarf with pink hair and pig tails! I don't stop RP until I turn off the game and this includes posting on the official forums or posting here, but that is not to say that I haven't ever talked about RL issues while in game; just the opposite. I use RP to meet people from all over the world. *passing e-BEER has truely been the greatest icebreaker's of saying hello to people in L2. Talking to friends to see how they are feeling or hearing about everyone's work and family life, but for the most part it's rolling with the game.
I know a lot of peeps that play L2 who are not in RL their in game toons. If that were the case, then I would be hanging out with a lot of green and gray skinned people! lolz
and perhaps even dead or always passed out from all the beer I would really have drank!
ooo I guess then I would be considered hardcore RPer due to the fact I also dislike using vent! I think a little of the magic is lost when voices don't match the characters on the screen.

Ooohhh, I can understand all

Ooohhh, I can understand all that Isabelie, it's so odd being in a party with a bunch of girls, and hearing a bunch of guys on Vent, and it's hard matching them up with their toons! "Follow me" on Vent does not work well with me. LoL.

For casual RP though. . . well, there's different *feels* to RP. When I RP Kesia, it's more of a. . . serious RP. She has a solid history, solid storyline.

But when I RP Kitty, it's a bit looser. Her history is spotty to say the least, she hasn't met most of the clan officially RP-wise. It's not really that I'm not role playing her pretty much constantly when I'm logged in as her, but I don't feel as bad about blurring the line between her and me.

With Kesia I have to keep things more separate. She's not as much a piece of me as Kitty is (or should I say more that Kitty is my alter-ego, and Kesia is more a piece of me?). I'm a bit tighter about separating IC and OOC with Kesia by limiting the smilies ( =^_^= =<_<= etc), and placing OOC talk in either a separate channel, whispers, or in brackets (( )).

Of the two, Kesia is more like the characters I RP in IMs and on message boards. I would NEVER RP in IMs like I RP Kitty on Lineage 2.
