L2RPA and SOPA

I try very hard to keep my political beliefs out of running the website. It is professional, and I don't want to make it a personal platform for rants and whatnot.

That said, I cannot remain silent on the SOPA matter.

For those who don't know, SOPA is the Stop Online Piracy Act that is currently going through the US Government and on its way toward becoming a law. As written, it would allow content creators to force a website host to block all access to the website. It's a bit more complicated than that, and I'm sure there are sides I haven't seen.

The last thing I want is for our site to disappear because someone gets a bug up their ass (think of all your performances of copyrighted songs at the Well). I oppose SOPA, and strongly encourage you to contact your representative or congressperson to oppose it as well. But I'm not here to preach.

I'm here to tell you that I'm changing our domain registrar from GoDaddy to another registrar that doesn't support it. I'm voicing my opinion with my business. There may be some hiccups with the site while the change goes through, I can't say for sure they won't show up.

Thank you for allowing me a moment.

Actually, thanks for bringing

Actually, thanks for bringing this up as I hadn't thought of how SOPA could relate to L2RPA.

Not only would we have to consider the copyrighted songs we sing during the Wishing Well, and even though this is a Fan Site for Lineage 2, what about the stories we tell that are Lineage 2 related?

And how does SOPA affect companies such as NCSoft and Fan Sites? NCSoft has Fan Site material, a blurb in the EULA about using Lineage 2 references (even though we're not writing for profit), but what if companies force sites to register and even pay for the privilege to use their copyrighted material? And how far does that go? One article I read suggests that companies (such as NCSoft) could make individuals register and/or pay to use their copyrighted material and/or references to their game even for not for profit use.

I opposed it as well and let my voice be heard with my state reps. I understand the motive and there is a need, but SOPA was far too broad without proper checks and balances.

Good topic JK!
